Professional Toilet Repair & Installation in Atlanta

A constantly running toilet or slow-flushing bathroom fixture disrupts your home's peace and wastes thousands of gallons of water annually. Henson Mechanical provides expert toilet repair and installation services, fixing problems quickly and ensuring your bathroom fixtures operate efficiently for years to come.

Common Toilet Problems We Fix

Running Toilets: The most common issue, running toilets waste up to 200 gallons daily. Usually caused by a faulty flapper or fill valve, running toilets are often simple fixes.

Slow or Weak Flushing: Caused by mineral buildup, clogged jets, or insufficient water volume in the tank. This forces multiple flushes, wasting water.

Continuous Dripping: A leaking toilet wastes water and indicates internal wear. The drip might be silent (in the tank) or audible.

Clogged Toilets: From normal use, "flushable" wipes, or objects, clogs require professional removal to avoid damage.

Leaking at the Base: Indicates a failing wax ring seal between the toilet and floor. This allows wastewater to seep into your subfloor, causing structural damage and odors.

Running Throughout the Cycle: After flushing, the toilet continues refilling intermittently, wasting water.

Phantom Flushes: The toilet spontaneously flushes without use, indicating fill valve issues.

Cracked Tank or Bowl: Structural damage requires replacement; repair isn't possible.

How Toilets Work

Understanding your toilet helps you recognize problems early:

Tank: Holds water used for flushing. Fill valve refills it after flushing.

Flapper: A rubber seal that releases water from tank into bowl for flushing. When worn, water continuously leaks.

Fill Valve: Controls water flow into the tank from your supply line. Regulates water level automatically.

Flush Handle/Lever: Mechanical linkage that lifts the flapper to initiate flushing.

Bowl Overflow Tube: Prevents tank overflow by directing excess water into the bowl.

Trapway: The curved channel inside the bowl that removes waste to the sewer line.

Toilet Repair Process

When you call Henson Mechanical for toilet repair:

1. Diagnosis: We listen to your description and examine the toilet to identify the specific problem.

2. Explanation: We explain what's wrong in understandable terms and discuss repair options with transparent pricing.

3. Fast Repair: Our technicians repair or replace the faulty component, testing multiple times to ensure proper operation.

4. Water Efficiency Check: We verify your toilet operates efficiently and isn't wasting water.

5. Follow-up: We ensure you're satisfied and the problem is completely resolved.

Water-Efficient Toilet Upgrades

If your toilet frequently needs repair or was installed before 1992, upgrading to a modern high-efficiency toilet offers significant benefits:

Reduced Water Usage: Older toilets use 3.5-7 gallons per flush. Modern WaterSense toilets use 1.28 gallons or less.

Lower Water Bills: A family of four can save 13,000+ gallons annually by upgrading to efficient toilets.

Environmental Impact: Reduced water consumption benefits Georgia's water resources and local ecosystems.

Better Performance: Modern toilets feature improved flushing technology and trap designs that prevent clogs.

Rebate Programs: Many Georgia water utilities offer $50-$100+ rebates for high-efficiency toilet installation.

Dual Flush Options: Some models offer different flush volumes for liquid versus solid waste, optimizing water use.

I got lucky to have Jake come out to service my HVAC. He did a fantastic and thorough job inspecting the equipment. He explained everything in detail and a was a great person overall to interact with. Highly recommend this company and Jake. Update: Two days later Nick and a colleague came to install a furnace for me after a crack was found in the initial inspection. They did an amazing job with the install. They would not leave without making sure I was satisfied. Highly recommend!!

Sean Woodrum from Henson Mechanical did an excellent job servicing my AC. He was professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable. He thoroughly checked the upstairs unit, cleaned it, reviewed the thermostats, and inspected the outdoor unit while clearly explaining what he found and what to expect going forward. You can tell he really takes pride in his work. Highly recommend!

The guys were informative and prompt. They walked me through the process and answered all questions. They cleaned up nicely also! I’m happy with the results. Thanks Steve

Sean came on 9/20 and said transformer was blown. 9/21 Sean installed a new transformer and fixed the electrical issue causing it to blow. Next morning ac is out again. Scotty comes and said I need a new blower motor or a whole new unit (mine is 6 yrs old). He said he couldn’t do anything to get it working. Called Estes and they came same day and fixed the blown transformer that Sean replaced on 9/21. Electrical issue was not fixed properly by Sean and thus it went out again. Estes fixed everything (electrical issue and new transformer) and 2 weeks later still running well. Jeremy the field manger said he wouldn’t refund my money for the cost of the part and labor (wasn’t asking for dispatch fee back) bc I didn’t call them again to come and fix it. Why would I have the same company come a 4th time when they proved the first 3 times they couldn’t do it? And then Scotty diagnosed a whole new problem and tried to rip me off by telling me I needed a $1200 blower motor or $8k brand new unit. Mine isn’t even at half its lifespan. Completely unprofessional and only trying to upsell. I spent 4 days with no ac in Georgia heat. I even kept the transformer they installed (see photos for serial number) to show it was blown again. Jeremy tried to claim it blew AFTER Scotty left and I didn’t call them to fix it. When Scotty left there was no ac at all so he did nothing anyways. I did call you to come and fix the problem and your tech told me he couldn’t do anything. Have tried to resolve this with them to no avail. I’ll be contacting the BBB and letting everyone in my community know not to use this company. UPDATE: Steve called me and was extremely sympathetic. He explained that this is not how they conduct business, I shouldn’t have to pay for services that were not properly rendered and agreed to give me a full refund and coach the techs who handled this. Within 10 minutes he called again to confirm my credit card would be credited. He stood up for me when no one was listening and made it right- which is all I asked for when the beginning. This company stands behind their work and has integrity and for that I say KUDOS. Thank you for making this right!!!

Sean was excellent. He came right on time, listening to my concerns, and educated me on what my “blown candle” smell really was. Turns out it was nothing and he still had a smile on his face and spent time telling me how the system works and when I should have concerns in the future. I would...

We called Casteel to help us figure out what was wrong with our basement heating unit. We knew upfront that the cost was $90 for someone to come out. We were then told it would be another $285 for the technician to do a leak test even though we told him where the leak was. We agreed to both of these costs. He said Casteel "was not in the business of repairing coils" but they would give us a quote if we wanted one. He then told us the cost to repair the coils would be approximately $6500 (even though the coil was still covered by Trane's warranty) or we could replace the unit for approximately $15,000. Mind you, we have lived in this new construction, custom built home for 5 years. When I asked about this unit being so new, he told me "It's mechanical and mechanical things break." We were put off by the astronomical quote, the attitude and the feeling that we were getting scammed to some degree. We took the quotes and told him we were going to check with other companies. We got a referral to a smaller company, Henson Mechanical out of Monroe, Ga. They are a smaller, family owned business. We explained what we learned from Casteel, but we did not tell them what they wanted to charge us. Henson did not charge us to come out to our home, they did not run another test, and they were very responsive to our questions. The owner of Henson came out himself (arrived around 8:15 in the morning) and said he didn't need to run a test; he said he could see where it was leaking without a test. He gave us a quote of $2700 to replace the coils. Since the unit was still under warranty, Mr. Henson went out to Duluth, picked up the warrantied part, and had his guys replace the coil all by 3:00 that afternoon. The two men from Henson that fixed our heater were professional, polite, and knew what they were doing. To say our experiences with the two companies are night and day would be an understatement. We literally spent less than half of the repair price given to us by Casteel for the same work. We even signed up for Henson's annual maintenance plan for $225 per year, and we still were less than half of Casteel's original quote. Please do not use Casteel. They are overpriced and put their financial gain before their customers. We will continue to use smaller, family owned businesses like Henson Mechanical whenever possible. We could not recommend Henson Mechanical more, and we are thankful for the referral to them. You get people who care with better customer service and cost. Thankful we were smart enough to get a second opinion!

Types of Toilets

Gravity-Fed Toilets: Standard toilets using gravity to move waste through trapway. Reliable and simple.

Pressure-Assisted Toilets: Use compressed air for more powerful flush. Excellent for clogs but louder.

Dual-Flush Toilets: Offer reduced flush (1.28 GPF) for liquids and full flush (1.6 GPF) for solids, maximizing efficiency.

Comfort Height Toilets: Taller bowl (17-19 inches vs. standard 14 inches) ideal for elderly or those with mobility challenges.

Smart Toilets: Features like heated seats, bidet functions, and self-cleaning technology. Premium comfort option.

One-Piece vs. Two-Piece: One-piece seamless design is easier to clean and more modern-looking. Two-piece is more affordable and easier to install/replace.

Prevention & Maintenance

Only Flush Appropriate Items: Toilet paper and human waste only. "Flushable" wipes, feminine products, and paper towels damage systems.

Avoid Chemical Cleaners: Harsh chemicals damage internal components. Use mild cleaners and let them sit briefly.

Regular Inspection: Check for leaks, unusual sounds, and running toilets monthly.

Quick Action: Slow leaks or running toilets worsen quickly. Call for repair at first sign of problems.

Professional Inspection: Schedule bathroom inspections during regular home maintenance visits.
